Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Film Gets Director

It was revealed a few years back that Disney’s Rescue Rangers will be getting a CG/Live-actiob film in theaters. Talk on the film died down & some probably thought the film would never see the light of day but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Akiva Schaffer, director of Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping & The Lonely Island will be directing the film. The film will be written by Dan Gregor & Doug Mand & will be produced by David Hoberman & Todd Lieberman (Disney’s George of the Jungle, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast).

The series premiered on The Disney Channel on March 4, 1989, after a preview episode (“Catteries Not Included”) was aired on August 27, 1988. The series continued in September with a two-hour movie special, Rescue Rangers: To the Rescue, which was later broken up into five parts to air as part of the weekday run. The final episode aired on November 19, 1990. Chip and Dale are two chipmunks who start a detective agency, Rescue Rangers, along with their friends Gadget, Monterey Jack, and Zipper.

No release date for the film was releahsed.
