Constantine: Warner Bros. Discovery Confirms Sequel with Keanu Reeves in the Works

Deadline revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery is moving forward with a sequel to 2005’s Constantine film with Keanu Reeves & director Francis Lawrence returning. Akiva Goldsman will be writing the screenplay. Goldsman will also produce the film with J.J. Abrams & Hannah Minghella.

The 2005 Constantine film was directed by Francis Lawrence & was written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, & Peter Stormare. John Constantine is an exorcist who can perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their actual forms and travel between Earth and Hell.

Constantine grossed $230.9 million worldwide against a production budget between $70–100 million. Although the film did well at the box office, fans of the comics & some critics had mixed feelings about Reeves’ portrayal.

There is no word on where the story will be heading, but with Lawrence saying in 2011 that he wanted the sequel to be a “hard-R scary version.“, we are hoping the film will bring forth the hard -R.
