Disney Confirms Obi-Wan Standalone Movie

After a bunch of speculation & tears from devoted Star Wars fans, Disney has finally announced that there is indeed an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film in the works. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who confirmed the spin-off was in development. Lucasilm is targeting Stephen Daldry (Billy ElliotThe HoursThe Reader) to helm the film. As of right now, there is no story attached to the project, but we do know that it’s set between Episode III & Episode IV.

Although fans are eager to see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that no actors are attached to star in the film. I guess all we can do right now is pray & hope that McGregor joins the cast.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was portrayed by Alec Guinness, while in the prequel trilogy a younger version of the character is portrayed by Ewan McGregor. In the original trilogy, he is a mentor to Luke Skywalker, to whom he introduces the ways of the Jedi. In the prequel trilogy, he is a master and friend to Anakin Skywalker.
