Sean Marshall For those of you still holding your breath to see if Johnny Depp would return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film , feel free to exhale now. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new film has cast its leading role & Depp is nowhere to be seen. Margot Robbie has been cast to lead the female-fronted film with Christina Hodson set to pin the script. Robbie & Hudson are not new to working together, as Hodson penned the script for Warner Bros. Pictures Birds of Prey.
This film is not the reboot that will be penned by Ted Elliot & Craig Mazin, so it looks as though Disney is already plotting a grounded cinematic universe for their new spin on the franchise. Since the reboot is still in motion, one can only hope that Depp somehow appears in later films.
