Ewan McGregor Joins WB’s Birds of Prey as Black Mask

Warner Bros. Pictures Birds of Prey is moving forward with some fantastic speed. With the well-received cast soaking up the limelight, WB finally lifted the veil on the big bad for the upcoming film. Deadline confirmed today tha Ewan McGregor will be joining the film as Black Mask!

For those who unfamiliar with who Black Mask is, Roman Sionis, better known by his criminal alias Black Mask, is a longtime enemy of Batman and one of the most prominent figures in Gotham City’s organized crime. Once a member of Gotham’s social elite and president of makeup giant Janus Cosmetics, Roman’s own poor business sense led to a series of decisions that largely destroyed his reputation as both. Humiliated, Roman sought revenge on those he perceived to be responsible for his misfortunes – namely, Bruce Wayne and his company. To this end, Roman created the identity of the crimelord named Black Mask, as well as the criminal organization known as the False Face Society.

Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan & will star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, & Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. The film will be R-rated & will hit theaters on February 7, 2020.

After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.
