Futurama Is Returning with New Episodes on Hulu

Last month the creators behind King of the Hill surprised fans by announcing that they were returning with new episodes that will take place 15 years after the last episode aired. Although King of the Hill is one of Fox’s most memorable animated shows, it looks like another classic is returning with new episodes.

Yes, Futurama is returning with new episodes & it’s making its new home at Hulu! The announcement came yesterday from creators Matt Groening & David X. Cohen. As of now, the shows will return with a 20-episode run. Cohen said: “I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future … or really anything other than the present,” Groeing jokingly added, “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”

Craig Erwich, president of originals at Hulu and ABC Entertainment, had this to say: “When presented with the opportunity to bring fans and viewers new episodes of Futurama, we couldn’t wait to dive in. This iconic series helped blaze the trail for the success of adult animation since its initial launch, and we look forward to Matt & David continuing to pave the way and further establishing Hulu as the premiere destination for fans of the genre.”

Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr & David Herman are returning. Still, as of now, John DiMaggio is not returning to voice the iconic Bender & is set to be recast. Negotiations to bring DiMaggio back are underway, but he did take to Twitter to thanks fans for supporting him. DiMaggio said: “Thanks for the concern and the props, everyone. I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted, but until then… CHEESE IT! #bendergate”

Futurama is scheduled to return to Hulu in 2023.
