Illumimation Entertainment Teases Release of Mario Bros. Movie

It was November of last year when it was announced that Nintendo & Illumination Entertainment were teaming up to bring the Mario Bros. back to the big screen. The film was confirmed to be an animated film & that Shigeru Miyamoto  will be pthe producer& have control creative development & will be joined by Illumination’s CEO Chris Meledandri.

Meledandei spoke with Variety & said that the animated Mario Bros. film is currently in “priority development” & that they are pushing to have the film ready for the big screen by 2022.

Meledanri added:

“I like that this was not done well the first time. I think that’s more exciting or more worthy than simply making another version of a film that was done incredibly well to begin with.” For Meledandri, “The challenge is taking things that are so thin in their original form and finding depth that doesn’t compromise what generations of fans love about Mario, but also feels organic to the iconography and can support a three-act structure.”

No story details have been revealed, but we are very excited to see where they are going with Mario & if this will eventually open up a Nintendo Cinematic Universe.
