Netflix’s The Get Down Won’t Be Renewed for Season 2

Bad news for all of you fans of Netflix’s The Get Down. The critically acclaimed drama surrounding a young group of kids forming a hip hop group while also dealing with many of the issues of life during the birth and rise of hip hop in the Bronx in the late 70’s, will not be getting a season 2.

Baz Luhrmann, the show’s creator and show runner has stated that if the show had gotten picked up for a second season his involvement would be much more limited. After the news of the cancellation had hit, Luhrmann posted on Facebook acknowledged that his drawback in involvement was the deciding factor for the cancellation of the series.

Luhrmann had this to say:

“This exclusivity has understandably become a sticking point for Netflix and Sony, who have been tremendous partners and supporters of the show. It kills me that I can’t split myself into two and make myself available to both productions…but the simple truth is, I make movies.”
