Plots Details About Lionsgate’s Power Rangers Movie Revealed; New Villain Revealed

With only a teaser trailer & a few photos & posters being revealed, most moviegoers are lost as to what the film is truly about. Yes, Rita will be the main antagonist, but news hit recently that revealed that Rita won’t be the only familiar villainous face fans will be seeing on the big screen next year.

The Wrap revealed some very interesting details about the Power Rangers movie that centers on Goldar, Rita’s warrior ally! Besides the reveal of Rita having the green Power Coin, which most of us already concluded, news hit that Rita is a 65 million-year-old former Green Ranger that has gone rogue! As for Goldar, it was said that:

“Goldar’s molecular essence is scattered around the globe after he was vaporized into a cloud of microscopic gold particles in the opening action sequence on Ancient Earth. Rita Repulsa collects gold to resurrect Goldar… and the Rangers have just 71 hours to stop her.”

This ultimately means that Goldar will be the giant monster the Rangers faceoff with in their Zords & Megazord! But wait, there’s more! The site revealed that Bryan Cranston’s Zordon will be the original Red Ranger, which definitely would tie him & Rita’s characters together nicely. For all we know it could be that the two were at one time romantically involved.

According to The Wrap, there will also be a fight scene that will have the Putties squaring off against the Power Rangers, because Rita is stealing gold from the Central Bank of Russie to bring Goldar back to life. The site also mentioned that Goldar’s main goal is to recover the Zeo Crystal, which Rita intends to deliver to Lord Zedd.

The Zeo Crystal is an artifact that channels the Morphing Grid — a dimension that weaves through all things and what gives the “Power Rangers” their power. The crystal was hidden on Earth to keep it out of the hands of those who would use it as a weapon. The Zeo Crystal is protected by a force field. Anything that comes in contact with it is vaporized. Goldar was created with a single purpose — to penetrate the force field and steal the crystal. Rita Repulsa has been trying to deliver the Zeo Crystal to her master, Lord Zedd, for a long time. It would make quite a statement, as he burned half his face off trying to steal it himself.

Yes, there have definitely been a few changes to the lore of the film, but this is to be expected. I mean, the changes are somewhat small & expand on a condensed story that originated from the original Power Rangers series.

Five high school students Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason are chosen by mentor Zordon to become the Power Rangers after learning that their small town of Angel Grove and the world are threatened by an alien force led by Rita Repulsa.
