Ryan Coogler Is Locked In To Produce The Space Jam Sequel

Talks of Space Jam 2 with LeBron James attached have circled the internet for well over a year, but when confirmation that a sequel definitely was in the works & that it would center on James, the news left many scratching their heads & left some fans still holding onto the nostalgia of the 1996 film that focused on Michael Jordan & the Looney Tunes feeling a bit underwhelmed.

Well, Space Jam 2 doesn’t seem to be slowing down as it has just added Black Panther director Ryan Coogler to the mix. Yes, Coogler will be joining the Space Jam sequel as a producer! When asked about the sequel, James said:

“It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”

As of right now, there is no official release date set for the sequel, but it will most likely aim for a late 2019 or 2020 release.

The first film told an alternate history of what happened between Jordan’s initial retirement from the NBA in 1993 and his comeback in 1995, in which he is enlisted by Bugs Bunny and his friends to help them win a basketball match against a group of aliens who want to enslave them for their amusement park
