For years, talks of the Elton John biopic hitting the big screen has had fans of the of his jumping for joy, but it appeared to be nothing but a great idea that fell into the infamous development hell of Hollywood’s forgotten films. However, according to Deadline the film is moving forward & has finally found its actor to play Elton John.

Deadline announced today that Taron Egerton will be jumping on the big screen as Elton John in the upcoming biopic Rocketman. The film is being housed at Paramount Pictures & will be directed by Dexter Fletcher. The film will follow Elton John’s rise throughout the 70’s & 80’s & his recovery from alcohol & drugs. There were talks that Rocketman would have Tom Hardy playing Elton John but that ship has sailed.

Elton John told Egerton:

“Don’t copy me. Don’t think you have to sing it exactly the way that I sang it. Don’t think you have to perform it the way I performed it. I think it’s the challenge for the actor to embody the spirit and not get into thinking they have to do an impersonation.”

No release date has been announced for the film.
