When it was revealed that Rian Johnson would not be returning for Star Wars: Episode IX, many fans were upset, especially when the announcmement came it that J.J. Abrams was taking over for the well-liked Johnson, who fans wanted to return for the final film in the trilogy. Despite the move from Episode IX, it looks like Johnson isn’t finished with the Star Wars universe yet.
Disney announced today that Johnson will be given a new trilogy to helm, with a new story, new characters & it will be set in a new galaxy. Johnson is joining Ram Bergman, a close collaborator who teamed up with Johnson on Looper and Brick. Bergman also produced Star Wars: The Last Jedi with Kathleen Kennedy.
This comes just after Kennedy spoke about Rey, Poe & Finn being featured in future Star Wars films. Could these new films be the ones Johnson is taking over?
