Rumor of The Goonies Sequel Put To Rest By Martha Plimpton

Recently, some rumors have been floating around social media claiming that a sequel to The Goonies sequel is in the works at that director Steven Spielberg was confirmed to be returning. While most of us in the “know” threw water on these burning rumors, some of you continued to share the rumor as a bonafide fact. Well, I’m here to tell you the truth memes circulating about the sequel are indeed false.

The Goonies star Martha Plimpton, who played Stephanie “Stef” Steinbrenner, confirmed today via X that there was no sequel in the works.

Plimpton said:

“People, there is no ‘Goonies 2’ script, there is no one ‘attached,’” Plimpton wrote on Instagram. “Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real. What IS real is CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION AND VOTE!!!!”

Actor Corey Feldman, who played Clark “Mouth” Devereaux added:

“no information” whatsoever that a sequel was in development.”

Rumors about a sequel have been floating around the net since 2014. And that puts a pin in the rumor bubble floating around. There is no sequel currently in the works and nothing will be arriving next year.

The Goonies hit theaters on June 7, 1985 and was produced by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg. The film starred Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan, John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano and Mary Ellen Trainor.

The film follows a group of kids who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and, in doing so, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. During the adventure, they are pursued by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves.
