Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Joins Jordan Peele’s Candyman

Jordan Peele definitely has his hands full in the Hollywood spotlight with his US film & his new take on The Twilight Zone picking up steam. Word of him hitting the gas on a new Candyman film circulated last year & peeked the interest of some longtime fans of the franchise.

The fingers were pointed at a few that would suit the lead role in Candyman but it looks like MGM has finally released information on who will be hooking it to the Chicago citizens. Variety announced today that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be joining the cast as Candyman! This should come as no surprise as Yahya has been doing well on the small & big screen & has especially gained a larger fanbase with his role as Black Manta in WB’s Aquaman.

Some thought Peele was reviving Candyman as a reboot but that was put to rest once he announced that this will be a “spiritual sequel” to the first & will have Candyman returning to the now gentrified area where the Cabrini-Green housing projects used to stand tall.

Candyman will be directed by Nia DaCosta & was written by Jordan Peele. The film will start production this spring & is locked in to release June 12, 2020.
