Disney has been silent about their upcoming Marvel films & hasn’t revealed anything new from their lineup since the huge announcement of Mahershala Ali joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Blade. With Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel seemingly leading the MCU in future Phases, it should come as no surprise that Disney is ready to pump up the hype for their next Captain Marvel film.
It was announced today that Nia DaCosta, director of the new Candyman film will be helming the Captain Marvel sequel! DaCosta is taking the director’s chair from Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck & according to Disney was a standout from the number of directors being looked at to direct the film. Kevin Feige confirmed that the film was in production during SDCC 2019 & said that the film will take place in the present day.
As far as the story for Captain Marvel 2 goes, nothing is known, but Larson did say that she would like the film to feature Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. Captain Marvel 2 will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
