Culinary Manga “Shin Chūka Ichiban!” To Return To Anime Screen

It is time to bring back the era of cooking wars! After
nearly two decades, culinary manga fans will be treated to a newly revealed
adaptation of the famed manga Shin Chūka Ichiban! (The Best in Chinese (Food)!  also known as Cooking Master Boy) by Etsushi
Ogawa.

This manga was originally adapted into an anime series in 1997-1998 directed by Masami Anno, with a revered 52- episode stint. Just to refresh our memory, this anime takes place in 19th century China during the Qing dynasty. During this time, chefs would work to master their culinary skills to become the top chef in China. Their cooking skills are put to the test through competitions, where they can gain respect and power or lose everything. The storyline follows a young boy, Mao, as he travels across China to gain knowledge in all cooking styles to become the top chef of his’ deceased mother’s restaurant.
