Disney is doing a lot with their Star Wars franchise, & as we already know, they plan on pushing out some Star Wars standalone films, besides the Han Solo film. With casting news on the Han Solo film being pretty much silent, news broke today that shifts the excitement from the young Han Solo to the young Lando Calrissian.
Disney announced today that the young Lando Calrissian will be played by Donald Glover. Although I was rooting for Michael B. Jordan, this news is pretty exciting & surprising. According to Lucasfilm, Glover’s Lando will be in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.
Directors Phil Lord & Christopher Miller had this to say about casting Glover:
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
The Han Solo movie is set to hit theaters in 2018.
