Disney announced today that Lightyear will arrive on Disney+ on August 3rd.
Angus MacLane, director of Lightyear, had this to say about bringing Lightyear to Disney Plus: “‘Lightyear’ looks amazing on the big screen, of course, but we are so excited to bring it to Disney+. We devoted years of our lives to this film and we are so proud of it. We want to share it with as many people as possible. Disney+ not only gives more fans an opportunity to see ‘Lightyear’ it gives us all the means to see it again and again.“
Lightyear year hit theaters on June 17th & told the story of young astronaut Buzz Lightyear, who, after being stranded on a hostile planet with his commander and crew, tries to find a way back home while confronting a threat to the universe’s safety. The film was co-written and directed by Angus MacLane & produced by Galyn Susman. The film stars Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, & Uzo Aduba.
Lightyear, unlike the Toy Story films, wasn’t received well by audiences. The film grossed $213 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget.
