Yes, it’s true that Midway‘s Rampage video game is getting a big screen adaption that has Dwayne Johnson in the lead role. Most of the fans of the Rampage games were pretty much against the wall over this film being made; mainly because of the games outlandish story, but it seems like New Line Cinema is taking a step in a new direction with the story.
Johnson took to Instagram to share his excitement about being in Atlanta, Georgia to shoot the film & to give us a taste of the story for the film. Johnson also teased us with a photo of his gear.
Johnsin said:
“Good to finally have boots on the ground here in Georgia for production of #RAMPAGE. I head up an anti poaching unit out of Rwanda. My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named, George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world. George not happy. Me not happy. When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they kill you. I will hunt down the bad people who did this to my best friend. And when I find them, I will not lick them.”
Johnson added:
“We have the best VFX monster making team (WETA) on the planet. Our actors and crew have been working very hard to raise the monster genre bar. As always, let’s have some fun. Let’s shoot.”
The original game gave players control over three gigantic monsters who were formerly human. The game’s protagonists are George, a King Kong-like gigantic gorilla transformed by an experimental vitamin, Lizzie, a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard transformed by a radioactive lake, and Ralph, a giant werewolf transformed by a food additive. As monsters, they need to raze all buildings in a high-rise city to advance to the next level, eating people and destroying helicopters, tanks, taxis, police cars, boats, and trolleys along the way.
Rampage is scheduled to hit theaters in April 20, 2018. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Jake Lacy, Marley Shelton, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, Breanne Hill, & Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
