HBO Max Reveals the Release Date for Its Official Sequel To 1983’s ‘A Christmas Story’

1983’s classic A Christmas Story is getting a sequel on HBO Max called A Christmas Story Christmas. The sequel will star Peter Billingsley reprising his role from the original film, along with Julianna Layne, Erinn Hayes, Zack Ward, River Drosche, Julie Hagerty, RD Robb, & Scott Schwartz. The sequel will premiere on HBO Max on November 17th. 

A Christmas Story Christmas will be directed by Clay Kaytis & produced by Irwin Zwilling, Vince Vaughn, Cale Boyter, Peter Billingsley, Marc Toberoff, & Jay Ashenfelter. A Christmas Story Christmas will follow an adult Ralph Paker, who now has to deal with Christmas & all of its highs & lows. 

The 1983 comedy starred Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, & Peter Billingsley & instantly became a staple in homes during the Thanksgiving & Christmas seasons. 

The synopsis for the 1983 film is as follows: 

Based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd, this beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley), who spends most of his time dodging a bully (Zack Ward) and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder air rifle.” Frequently at odds with his cranky dad (Darren McGavin) but comforted by his doting mother (Melinda Dillon), Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.
