Jared Leto joins the Yakuza in “The Outsider”

Jared Leto joins the Yakuza in “The Outsider”

Netflix released a trailer for the crime thriller “The Outsider” this morning online. Martin Zandvliet directs with Jared Leto, Tadanobu Asano, Shiori Kutsuna, Emile Hirsch, Rory Cochrane and Kippei Shiina starring.

A short synopsis was also released.

An American soldier imprisoned in postwar Japan enters the dark world of the Yakuza, adopting their way of life in repayment for his freedom.

There is a similarity between this and 2003’s “The Last Samurai” starring Tom Cruise in the sense that his character in that and Leto’s role in “The Outsider” mirror one other. One working under the emperor of Japan to teach soldiers modern warfare tactics and the other climbing the ranks of organized crime in Japan, both against their own will for a chance to be free.

“The Outsider” will arrive on Netflix Friday March 9th.
