Live-action Cowboy Beebop Series Gets Its Lead Cast

With Akira being shot soon & the One Piece anime series being adapted to television, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that another huge anime series is being pushed forward to the small screen. Talks of Cowboy Beebop being adapted to the small & big screen has popped up for many years but nothing solid ever came to fruition.

Netflix announced that it will be adapting the live-action Cowboy Beebop series & we now have news on the leading cast for the series. John Cho will be playing Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage) will be playing Jet Black, Daniella Pineda will be playing Faye Valentine & Alex Hassell.

The description of each character from the series is as follows:

Cho’s take on Spike is “an impossibly cool ‘cowboy’ (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future’s most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do.”

Shakir version of Jet Black is “one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table. Jet is an inveterate jazz enthusiast and captain of the Bebop.”

Pineda is playing Faye Valentine, “an amnesiac thief and con artist, while Hassell is Vicious, Spiegel’s ex-partner who is now out to kill him.”

Alex Garcia Lopez is confirmed to be directing the first two episodes of the series.
