Kevin Feige took to the stage at San Diego Comic Con this past Saturday & revealed some significant updates from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The announcement of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty & Avengers: Secret Wars at the Hall H panel rocked the house & confirmed that Kang will be the center villain of what Fiege is calling The Multiverse Saga.
Despite the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty being announced, no director was revealed to be attached to the project. Fans were sure that the Russo brothers would helm the film, but Feige buried this during an interview Saturday.
The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Marvel has indeed found its director for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Shang-Chi, will be directing the fifth Avengers film! Cretton is also still locked in for the sequel to Shang-Chi & for the live-action Wonder Man film.
Some fans are hoping that the film will center on the Kany Dynasty or the Kang War, which started in Avengers (vol. 3) #41-55 & ended in Avengers Annual 2001. The story features Kang the Conqueror, a warlord from the 30th century, one of the deadliest and oldest Avengers foes, arriving in the early 21st century with his son Marcus intent on conquering the planet. Although Kang is temporarily successful, the first villain in Marvel Comics to physically take over the world as opposed through mind control, as Doctor Doom once accomplished by amplifying the powers of the Purple Man, he is opposed and eventually defeated by the Avengers.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
