Netflix Finds Its Yusuke Urameshi for the Live-action Yu Yu Hakusho Series

Netflix started rolling its wheels on its upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series by announcing its lead for the series. Netflix also teased us with a promotional image from the upcoming adaption, which can be seen below. 

Variety announced that Takumi Kitamura (Tokyo Revengers) had been cast to play the main protagonist Yusuke Urameshi. Fans of Kitamura may also know him as the guitarist & vocalist for the band DISH//. The live-action series will hit Netflix on December 2023. Yusuke Urameshi is a 14-year-old Spirit Detective tasked with protecting the Human World from various supernatural threats over the series. His closest friends and greatest allies include Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, Keiko, Genkai, Koenma, and Botan.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child’s life. After several tests are presented to him by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife Underworld, Yusuke is revived and appointed the title of “Underworld Detective,” with which he must investigate various cases involving demons and apparitions in the Human World.

The manga series ran from December 1990 to July 1994. The anime series ran on Fuji TV from October 1992 to December 1994.
