Netflix Finds Their Kurama For the ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ Live-Action Series

Netflix announced on Friday that Akumi Kitamura (Tokyo Revengers, Let Me Eat Your Pancreas) will play Yusuke Urameshi in their upcoming live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series. Today, another announcement from Netflix revealed a new cast member has been brought on to play Kurama.

Jun Shison (Bumblebee, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day) is set to play Kurama, a reincarnated Kitsune who his previous life, was a leader of an infamous band of bandits in the Demon World.

Kazutaka Sakamoto will executive produce the series while Sho Tsukikawa will direct it. Ryō Sakaguchi is the VFX supervisor.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child’s life. After several tests are presented to him by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife Underworld, Yusuke is revived and appointed the title of “Underworld Detective,” with which he must investigate various cases involving demons and apparitions in the Human World.

The manga series ran from December 1990 to July 1994. The anime series ran on Fuji TV from October 1992 to December 1994.
