As part of the 2021 DC FanDome, Momoa took fans behind the scenes for the production of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The sneak peek footage begins with Momoa driving to set for his first day of production on July 17; where he proceeds to mention how the sequel tackles environmental issues and raises the stakes from the hit 2018 film.
“Aloha DC FanDome I apologize for the four-year wait,” Momoa began. “but I’m very proud of the sequel because it’s tackling a lot of issues environmentally, stakes are higher, and I’m just excited because I had a big part of it with my boy James.”
“I have so much invested into it. I love this character. I love what it represents,” said Momoa.
Director James Wan said the sequel is a “movie that’s more mature, yet still retains its fun.”
“Black Manta is still seeking his vengeance to try to kill Aquaman. That’s going to be something that’s exciting for the audience,” said Wan. “It’s a globetrotting story. We visit so many different worlds. This movie isn’t afraid to embrace its fantasy.”
This blockbuster movie will additionally star Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen. The original Aquaman was released in December 2018; the film reached more than $1 billion at the box office.
There was plenty of concept art and behind-the-scenes action shots, as well as fight training, unveiled at FanDome Event on Saturday, October 16th, 2021.
