We have finally received word on who will be the main focus of Bridgerton’s Season Three. Some fans thought that the Netflix show would continue to release in the same order as the books, but Chris Van Dusen has surprised everyone by going in a completely different direction. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Lady Whistledown, revealed her character would be next to find love during an appearance at Netflix’s FYSee panel on Sunday. Coughlan said: “Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time, and I can confirm to you all that Season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story. I have kept that secret since two weeks into Season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”
Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, told Netflix’s website Tudum “I’m hoping that he has sort of a more sensitive side to him. I love that we are exploring a relationship that so many people have had, where you form a friendship, and you get to know each other down to the core. Then it sparks something from there.”
In Julia Quinn’s books, the next in line was to be Benedict Bridgerton, who will likely be the main focus in Season Four or later seasons. Jess Brownell is now taking over as showrunner for Season Three, and things will be changing course, and the series will jump ahead to book 4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Brownell had this to say: “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people. I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.“
We do not have a release date for the new season. The new season will include Nicola Coughlan, Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Claudia Jessie, Luke Thompson, Will Tilston, Julie Andrews, Bessie Carter, Polly Walker, Luke Newton, Adjoa Andoh, Joanna Bobin, Phoebe Dynevor, Kathryn Drysdale, Lorraine, Golda Rosheuvel, Hugh Sachs.
