Millennium Media announced today that the upcoming Hellboy remake Hellboy: The Crooked Man has found its lead. Jack Kesy (12 Strong, Deadpool 2) will take the lead and star as Hellboy. Brian Taylor (Crank) will be helming the film with a script from Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy and Chris Golden.
Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, Millennium Media’s Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, Les Weldon, Rob Van Norden, and Yariv Lerner will produce the film. Mike Mignola, Millennium Media’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, and Tanner Mobley, Campbell Grobman Films’ Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, and Telepool’s Michael Muellner and Julia Muentefering will executive produce while Sam Schulte will co-produce on behalf of Millennium Media.
Co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger had this to say about Jack Kesy playing Hellboy:
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost.”
This will be the third time we’re seeing a new Helboy on the big screen. Ron Pearlman played Hellboy in Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 Hellboy and 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. David Harbour stepped up to play the character in Neil Marshall’s 2019 Hellboy remake, which wasn’t received well at theaters.
The synopsis for the new film is as follows: Stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia, Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.
Millennium Media bought the rights to Hellboy in 2018. The Eisner Award-winning Hellboy: The Crooked Man comic debuted in July 2008 to correspond with the cinema release of Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Millennium Media presents Hellboy: The Crooked Man in association with Dark Horse Entertainment – A Nu Boyana Production in association with Campbell Grobman Film.
There is currently no release date for the film, but we hope to see something pop up at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
