Sean Marshall Number One rejoins Starfleet! Jonathan Frakes will be directing an episode of Star Trek:Discovery. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg spoke excitedly about him joining the project. “Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery.He’s a fantastic guy and great director.”
Of course, us Trek fans already knew this. Frakes has directed episodes of TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and the films First Contact (arguably the best Next Gen movie) and Insurrection. Having Frakes onboard provides a much needed shot of confidence as we’ve watched Discovery go through delays and the loss of one of its showrunners. With Frakes lending credit to this show, could we possibly see other Trek alums directing? LeVar Burton? Robert Duncan MacNeill? Roxann Dawson? Let’s hope the series lives long enough for them to consider it!
