Lionsgate announced they will be teaming up with Jordan Schur’s Suretone Pictures to bring David Morrell’s Creepers to the big screen. Some might remember that Morrell wrote the 1972 action-thriller First Blood book, which later spawned the Rambo films that starred Sylvester Stallone.
The film is set to begin production this summer in Bulgaria & will be directed by Marc Klasfeld, who will make his directorial debut with this film.
Klasfeld had this to say:
“I have waited decades to find the right feature film project to which I could truly dedicate myself. The passion I have found to make Creepers all it can be is extraordinary, and I honestly can’t wait for the world to see what we have in store.”
Jordan Schur, chairman & CEO of Suretone Pictures, added:
“I am pleased to partner on this special film with Lionsgate. After a decade in development, we have arrived at our destination with a powerful script adapted from a timeless book and a gifted director leading the charge. We could not ask for a better partner in Lionsgate who share our passion and excitement to bring the world this amazing rollercoaster of a story.“
The synopsis for the book is as follows:
On a cold October night, five people gather in a run-down motel on the New Jersey shore and begin preparations to break into the Paragon Hotel. Built in the glory days of Asbury Park by a reclusive millionaire, the magnificent structure—which foreshadowed the beauties of art-deco architecture—is now boarded up and marked for demolition. The five people are “creepers,” the slang term for urban explorers: city archeologists with a passion for investigating abandoned buildings and their dying secrets. On this evening, they are joined by a reporter who wants to profile them—anonymously, as this is a highly illegal activity—for a New York Times article. Frank Balenger isn’t looking for just a story, however. And after the group enters the rat-infested tunnel leading to the hotel, it becomes clear that he will get much more than he bargained for. Danger, terror, and death await the creepers in a place ravaged by time and redolent of evil. The darkest secrets live in places you’re not supposed to be.
