Sean Marshall J.J. Abrams and Warner Bros. TV are working together to bring the Speed Racer series back to the small screen. The series has reportedly been in the works for years with Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. The series will make its home on Apple TV & is currently hiring co-writers.
Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo )was first created and designed by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida (1932–1977) as a manga series in the 1960s and made the jump to TV as an anime series in 1967. Speed Racer is an 18-year-old boy who dreams of driving his car, the incredible Mach 5, in professional races around the world. When the going gets tough and meddling crooks keep him from the finish line, he always finds a way to make it through. Join Trixie, Pops, Spritle, Chim Chim, and the whole gang as they root for Speed in the most nail-biting, death-defying races in history!
The last time we saw a live-action Speed Racer was in 2008’s action comedy film from The Wachowskis. The film starred Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, Roger Allam, Benno Fürmann, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rain, and Richard Roundtree.
We’re most likely looking at a modern take on the manga/anime series that will be in the vein of the Fast & Furious series, but for now, nothing concrete has been revealed about the story, release date or the cast.
