Marvel Studios has finally pulled back the curtain on its long-awaited X-Men reboot.
During Marvel’s panel at D23, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, director Jake Schreier and Sadie Sink took the stage to reveal the principal cast of the highly anticipated 2028 film, which will officially bring Marvel’s mutant heroes into the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The newly announced cast includes Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm.
The announcement was met with considerable excitement, particularly the casting of Navarrette, who emerged as one of the breakout performers of the year following her acclaimed performance in the horror hit Obsession. Her addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe marks another major step for the rising actress.
But Marvel wasn’t finished.
Feige also confirmed the film’s primary villain: Mr. Sinister, the sinister geneticist also known as Nathaniel Milbury. The character will be portrayed by Adam Driver, adding another major name to an already impressive ensemble.
Driver addressed the casting during an appearance yesterday, joking about his unusual introduction to the project.
“When Kevin told me to show up for X-Men, I assumed he meant on set,” Driver said. “So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood [Studios] on this very lonely soundstage. Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time.”
Driver then teased fans about the identity of his character.
“So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.”
The announcement confirms that Marvel is taking a notably different approach to the franchise, assembling a cast that combines rising stars with established Hollywood talent. With Driver stepping into the role of one of the X-Men’s most notorious adversaries, the film appears poised to give Mr. Sinister a major role in the MCU’s mutant mythology.
And apparently, Marvel still has more surprises in store.
Feige added that the D23 announcement would not be the final casting reveal for the film, though he stopped short of revealing who else might be joining the franchise. For now, fans will have to wait a little longer to see what Marvel has up its sleeve.
Directed by Jake Schreier, Marvel Studios’ X-Men is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
