When Disney took over 20th Century Fox, fans of the X-Men films wondered just how Disney would handle the property or even if we’d see the return of the X-Men in an animated form. While might be wondering about the Marvel Cinematic Universe embracing the X-Men, it looks like Disney has been making some moves in the shadows with the intent on bringing back X-Men: The Animated Series for a new generation.
During the virtual Wizard World panel this past Friday, Producer of X-Men: The Animated Series Larry Houston confirmed that he has been in talks with Disney about a possible revival.
Houston had this to say:
“We’ve had talks, but that’s about it. We’ve made conversation and it’s up to them to make the decision, but we’ve let them know that we’re all available for whatever they want to do in the future.”
When asked if he’d return to revive the series, Houston said:
“If we could do a special, a one-off episode, or a five-part episode. Whatever they wanted to do if we had all the original team. That’s what I would come out of retirement for.”
Back in 2019, Houston spoke with The Hollywood Reporter & when asked about how he’d continue the series, he said he’d “continue where we left off”. X-Men: The Animated Series appeared on the Fox Kids Network on October 31, 1992 & ended on September 20, 1997.
