‘Girl You Know It’s True’: Leonine Studios Reveals First Photos from Milli Vanilli Biopic

Leonine Studios revealed the first images from their upcoming Milli Vanilli biopic Girl You Know It’s True.

Simon Verhoeven will direct the film while Max Wiedemann & Quirin Berg will produce. The film will star Tijan Njie & Elan Ben Ali as Robert Pilatus & Fabrice Morvan. Matthias Schweighöfer will play as German music producer Frank Farian. The film will also star Graham Rogers as Milli Vanilli’s U.S. assistant Todd & Bella Dayne as Milli, Farian’s right-hand woman.

Kevin Liles, a member of the band Numarx & co-founder and CEO of music company 300 Entertainment, will executive produce the film with Farian, Verhoeven, & Stefan Gärtner locked in to produce. Brad Howell & Jasmin Davis, daughter of the late John Davis, who, along with Howell, were the real voices behind the R&B duo, are associate producers.

According to Deadline, the biopic centers on the true story of the notorious scandal involving dancers Pilatus and Morvan’s rise to fame in the late 1980s as pop sensation Milli Vanilli. Orchestrated by Farian, they become global stars with three No. 1 hits in the U.S. and even won a Grammy. But only a small circle of insiders knew that the duo never sang a word of their songs. When the truth eventually was revealed, they stared into the abyss at the center of one of the biggest scandals in music history.

Milli Vanilli was a German-French R&B dup that achieved international fame in 1990 with their debut album All or Nothing (Girl You Know It’s True). However, in July 1989, during a live performance on MTV, the tape began to skip on the “Girl You Know It’s True” part of the song, revealing that the duo was lip-syncing their performances.

Check out the photos of Njie & Ali as Milli Vanilli & Schweighöfer as Frank Farian below. No release date has been revealed for the biopic.
