Michelle La Bella Neill Blomkamp‘s Grand Turismo movie based on Sony‘s video game series has finally received an update. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 11, 2023, & the script will be written by Jason Hall (American Sniper). PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti are attached to the film as producers.
Initially, Sony planned to have Grand Turismo come to life as a television series, but it looks like Sony decided to take a different route & bring this to the big screen.
Although the video game series never had a story mode, the film’s synopsis is as follows: “Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.”
The Gran Turismo games are intended to emulate the appearance and performance of a large selection of vehicles, most of which are licensed reproductions of real-world automobiles. Since the franchise’s debut in 1997, over 85 million units have been sold worldwide for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation Portable making it the highest-selling video game franchise under the PlayStation brand.
