Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Sequel Gets A 2024 Release Date

Back in June, Todd Phillips teased moviegoers with an announcement about a sequel to his Joker film. Following the tease, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Lady Gaga was in talks to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel as Harley Quinn.

The Hollywood Reporter has once again revealed that Warner Bros. Pictures is moving forward with the sequel, which is officially called Joker: Folie à deux & Lady Gaga will be joining the film. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2024, & will go into production in December. The film is said to be a musical, but the official plot details are still being kept in the dark.

Todd Phillip’s Joker hit theaters in 2019 & starred Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron. The film was set in 1981 and followed Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian whose descent into insanity and nihilism inspires a violent counter-cultural revolution against the wealthy in a decaying and destroyed Gotham City.

Joker grossed over $1 billion & is the first R-rated film to do so. With the announcement of the Batgirl film being shelved yesterday because of Warner Bros. Discovery wanting to focus more on big screen films & less on the movies heading to their HBO Max streaming service, it’s interesting to see that the push for the Joker sequel, especially with its new direction.
