Violent Night Sequel in the Works

The sequel to Universal Pictures’ Violent Night has been confirmed to be in the works. Tommy Wirkola, director of the 2022 film, confirmed during an interview with The Wrap, that a sequel was currently in development.

Violent Night followed Santa Claus (David Harbour) as he fights mercenaries who have taken a wealthy family hostage in their home. The film starred David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, Leah Brady, and Beverly D’Angelo. Tommy Wirkola is returning to helm the sequel but didn’t specify when we would be seeing it hit theaters. One can guess that a late 2023 or 2024 release date is being sought after.

Wirkola said the following:

We have time to really crack the script and figure out the story. And we have some ideas, me, Pat and Josh, and the producers. We’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see. There is stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves, but story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.

Violent Night made $4.9 million on its first day, which included $1.1 million from Thursday night previews. It ended its theatrical run with $13.5 million, landing second behind Disney’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
